“Ethanol industry surpasses 3 billion gallon mark under construction. 55 facilities are now being designed and built.” There are now 17 states and two provinces with facilities being built. Historically Ethanol facilities would use a single large Watertube boiler to produce the steam required for the conversion process. For a 50 MM gallon plant, the Watertube boiler would be in the 200,000,000 BTU range. For a 100 MM gallon plant, you would need a Watertube boiler twice that size. The trends in Ethanol plant design continues to change. One recent trend has been to use Firetube boilers instead of Watertube boilers. Webster has been a leader in the market shift since 2001 and continues to be the leading provider of Firetube burners. NOx levels of these packages would vary depending on the location and size of the facility. Normally the overall plant is designed to meet a certain emissions level thus the larger the plant the lower the emissions level for each boiler / burner package. Webster burner designs for larger units have a long history, going back some 50 years. While today’s burners share much of that knowledge base, many improvements have been made with newer control technology, advanced emission controls and continuous improvement.
